Montessori washbasin IKEA hack

Combing hair, brushing teeth, washing hands – all things that are simply part of everyday life. But even these everyday tasks are things that little ones have to learn first. And learning means doing it yourself! Maybe not perfectly at first, but at your own pace and with your own drive. You can give your children the ideal support with a washbasin at eye level – the Montessori bathroom.

What you need for the Montessori washbasin

IVAR wooden chair from IKEA or an existing chair
Plastic container or bowl
IKEA ÖNSKLIG container, set of 4
Small towel hooks
A children's mirror
A jigsaw
Sandpaper
Pencil

How to build the Montessori bathroom

Place the IKEA + plastic container on the seat of your wooden chair. Now grab a pencil and trace around the edge of the container.
Use a jigsaw to cut a circular hole in the seat of the wooden chair. Important: Saw the circle about 1 cm further in than your pencil drawing. After all, the plastic container should stay in the chair and not fall through the hole ;)
Now it's time to sand it down. Use the sandpaper to smooth out the edges of the saw cut so that little hands are not exposed to the risk of splinters.
Now place the plastic container in the hole you sawed out. Then hang the mirror on the back of the chair.
The small containers from IKEA can be easily attached to the small wooden slats under the chair – this ensures that nothing can slip. Now glue the towel hooks to the chair legs.

Top improvisation: Montessori bathroom with IKEA bench

The lovely @fraeulein__schnickschnack has built a slightly simpler but no less beautiful IKEA Montessori washbasin. She used the IKEA Molger bench for this. Unfortunately, IKEA has discontinued this product. However, IKEA has many other great bathroom shelves that are perfect for this hack. You can place everything your little one needs on it: a bowl of your choice, washcloths, toothbrushes, a mini mirror and a carafe of water.

Desiree from the @desireebuecherfee channel had this brilliant idea: she turned her bidet into a Montessori washbasin with the help of a homemade wooden bench. This allows little ones to turn on the tap all by themselves to brush their teeth and wash their hands. Brilliant!

Simple and inexpensive: Montessori bathroom hack
