Learning to tell the time

Learn to tell the time the fun way with a simple IKEA hack.

When the big hand is on 12 and the small hand is on 4, it’s 4 o’clock or 16 o’clock! Learning to tell the time isn’t as easy as it sounds. But teaching it takes patience too. As soon as the constant questions about the time start, these IKEA hacks will come in very handy. We’ve put together a learning clock for you – complete with a free craft template. Let’s get started!

How to make the learning clock

First, print out both dials on some fairly thick paper and cut out all the individual parts. You can easily download the craft template for free.

Now, start by sticking the 13–24 dial onto the cork coaster. Next, cut along the lines between each number on the 1–12 dial and stick it in the centre of the first dial, using a smaller section. Now simply secure the hands in the centre using a thumbtack.

And just like that, you’re ready to get started and help little ones learn to tell the time. The learning clock is also perfect for nursery or pre-school. Thanks to the flip-open feature on the children’s clock, your little ones will easily learn that ‘5’ can also mean ‘5.00 pm’.
