IKEA Hack doll’s bed: A Barbie dream

Lots of children love playing with Barbie and her friends. It’s just great fun to dress them up and do their hair, or to make up stories that send their favourite dolls on the wildest adventures . Playing with dolls is even more fun when you’ve got the right accessories – or even a proper dollhouse one to go with them. Often, though, that isn’t exactly cheap. That’s why we’re showing you a brilliant IKEA hack for a doll’s bed, which lets you easily turn an IKEA RIBBA picture frame into a lovely bed for Barbie’s bedroom yourself. And a homemade toy is usually much nicer and more personalised than one you’ve bought – don’t you agree?

Here’s what you’ll need for the IKEA doll’s bed hack:

• IKEA RIBBA picture frame 21 x
• 30 Plywood board measuring 21 x 10 cm for the headrest
• Acrylic
• paints Various fabrics or ready-made small
• cushions Craft glue and wood glue

2. Back side of the picture frame with fabric laminate

Now choose a nice piece of fabric (or, alternatively, paper) with which you’d like to decorate the mattress of the bed. To do this, take the measurements from the picture frame back side and cut the fabric to size. Using some craft glue, you can now stick the piece of fabric onto the black backsplash. This will automatically cover up the two holes that were created when you cut off the stand. Now you can put the picture frame back together and it will look just like a little doll’s bed.

3. Paint the plywood and attach it to the picture frame

. In the next step at , the doll’s bed gets a lovely headboard. To do this, paint your piece of plywood, measuring 21 x 10 cm, in any colours you like. We opted for a white headboard with black dots – to match our bed linen. To paint the wood, we used acrylic paints.

Once everything has dried thoroughly, you can attach the small headboard to the top edge of the picture frame using wood glue. After a few minutes, everything will be nice and secure. Now all that’s missing from this IKEA-hack doll’s bed is the right bed linen. After all, you can only really sleep well in cosy bed linen.

4. Sewing bed linen for Barbie

Using

colourful fabric scraps and a bit of wadding, you can easily sew a couple of cushions and a duvet. If you’re confident using a sewing machine, you can quickly sew the bed linen for the doll’s bed together. But the bed linen can also be sewn very easily by hand. Perhaps you also have a few toy cushions and blankets that you could use for the doll’s bed? The main thing is that Barbie ends up cosy in her new IKEA bed.
