10 magical elf pranks for an unforgettable holiday! Elf season
elf season is just around the corner - and with it, lots of fun pranks and magical surprises! When the little elf is secretly active night after night during Advent, there's always something new for the kids to discover. We have put together 10 clever ideas for you on how elf can spread Christmas cheer.

đź’ˇDid you know? - This is how the Scandinavian elf tradition
The Scandinavians have a very special Advent tradition: elf moves in with them. The tradition works like this: During Advent, a little christmas elf moves into your home: it lives behind a small elf door and plays funny tricks. The secret: the kids never get to see the elf as he (or she - there are also female elves) is up to mischief at night. With his creative ideas and miniature worlds, he enchants the children and spreads a lot of Christmas cheer every day.
When does the elf move in?
Traditionally, elf moves in on 1 December and accompanies the family through the Advent season. However, some elf also announce their arrival at the end of November to prepare the kids for elf season. He usually stays until Christmas Eve before travelling back to his elf world.
Where should the elf door be placed?
The elf door can be placed anywhere where it is clearly visible and easy to reach for the kids - ideally on a wall or skirting board where there is enough space for all the elf surprises.
Does the elf have an educational purpose?
Yes, the elf can also playfully convey educational values or address current topics from everyday family life. Just as you like!
The 10 magical elf pranks

1. The elf is moving in
The time has finally come: elf is moving into your home! So that the little ones can get in the mood for their new flatmate, we recommend announcing the arrival of the elf a few days before the first of December. You can easily do this with a letter or a elf construction site. Simply set it up in the place where the elf door will later be hanging. Perhaps the elf is working on his home the days before and the building site is slowly changing?
2. Introducing elf
The elf would like to get to know the kids better! He leaves a profile on his first night after moving in - perfectly filled out, of course, with everything you need to know about him. What is his name? Does he have a hobby? And a favourite food? You can choose the name of your elf and of course whether it's a male or female elf. But elf will of course also leave a blank profile for the kids so that they can introduce themselves to elf. Who knows, maybe you'll find a few things in common? You can easily formulate the profile yourself or use the templates from our elf book.

3. Flying high: elf explores your home
In the morning, the kids discover a small rope ladder hanging from a cupboard or table. What was the elf up to? Apparently he couldn't resist his curiosity and explored the flat. The gnome action shows that your elf is a real adventurer and loves to go exploring. Let's see where his next mission takes him.
4. Elf meets St Nicholas - little surprises in the boot
Your kids are sure to put their shoes outside the door on the evening before St Nicholas Day. Perhaps elf also puts its little polished shoes in front of elf door? The next morning, St Nicholas has filled the children's shoes to the brim. But the elf was probably also able to talk him out of a few things. The many empty wrappers and tangerine peels scattered everywhere are proof of this.
5. Elf magic: From paper to edible paper
elf also has plenty of magic tricks up its sleeve! Normal paper is magically transformed into delicious, colourful edible paper. To do this, place a piece of paper in front of the elf door with the little ones and sprinkle some glitter over it. Now wait overnight and sure enough - it worked! There is now edible paper where the piece of paper used to be! The amazement is great - the elf has probably shown its magical powers.

6. The elf on the wrong track - elf accident at the window!
Oh dear, the elf was probably travelling a little too fast in the snow. It has left a mark on the windscreen. Here's how it works: Simply stick a sticker on the window and spray snow spray (available in craft shops) around the stencil. Peel off the stencil to create a funny gnome print. You can make your own stencil here or use the sticker from our elf book.
7. The elf loves art and conjures up small children's pictures
Perhaps the minis would like to colour a picture for elf? He is an art lover and has left a few colouring pictures outside his door for the kids. The elf thinks some of the pictures are so beautiful that he would like to hang them on his own elf door. If you scan the pictures, you can easily print them out in mini format so that they fit perfectly next to the elf door.

8. Chocolate alarm! Footprints everywhere from the elf
In the morning, the kids discover tiny footprints made of chocolate cream - caught! Apparently the elf has been on a secret snacking trip at night and couldn't resist the delicious chocolate cream. The tracks lead right across the table or kitchen counter to a chocolatey loaf of bread. A cheeky hint that the elf is sometimes a bit of a chocolate lover.
9. The elf plays a game of hide-and-seek: find the swing!
This time, a game of hide-and-seek awaits the kids in the morning: Somewhere in the flat, the elf has secretly installed a small swing from which he can enjoy the view at night. Whether it's dangling from a door handle, a shelf or even a Christmas tree branch - the swing is a source of great curiosity. In the elf letter, elf gives the little ones tips on where they can find the swing. So shh, don't give anything away!

10. Time to say goodbye: The elf is moving out.
The time has come on 24 December: elf is moving out. After an exciting time full of pranks and magical surprises, he now has to make his way back to the world of gnomes. Perhaps the kids will find a tiny suitcase or a few small moving boxes in front of elf door? The elf can also leave a little message thanking them for the lovely time, or even leave a small memento outside the door. If the minis still think of the elf after Christmas, he will certainly send letters or postcards from the elf world in which he tells them about his exciting adventures. It's hard to say goodbye, but the anticipation of seeing him again next year prevails - until the next elf season!
