What is a wish list?
Writing and sending a wish list is a lovely tradition in the run-up to Christmas.
Children can write and/or stick all their heartfelt wishes on the wish list. This way, Father Christmas, Father Christmas and all family members know exactly what they want.
Where does the wish list tradition come from?
The tradition of the wish list can be traced back to around 1800. At that time, the wish list was still called a "Christmas letter" and was a kind of thank-you letter in which children thanked their parents and godparents for the education they had received and their well-being.
With the development of the toy industry in the 19th century, the first wish lists as we know them today appeared. Toy manufacturers printed catalogues in which children only had to choose their favourite items and mark them accordingly, and offered pre-printed forms and templates for wish lists.
Writing a wish list - how to do it
Step 1: Print out the template
As well as writing the wish list on boring blank paper, there is also the option of printing out wish list templates with great Christmas motifs. You can find our free wish list template below.
Print it out and have it ready with colourful crayons and stickers.
Step 2: Write down your wishes
Once you have everything ready, you can get started.
Write down all the wishes you want from Father Christmas or Father Christmas for Christmas on the wish list.
Tip: If you can't write yet, have brochures from various shops and event organisers ready for you to browse through. You can then simply cut out your potential wishes and stick them on your wish list.
To give Father Christmas or the Christ Child enough time to get the presents, the wish list should be written right at the beginning of the Advent season.

Where do you send the finished wish list?
Once the wish list is finished, you have several options for sending it:

Let Father Christmas, Father Christmas or Father Christmas pick it up
The easiest way to do this is to put the wish list outside the door or window with the children once it has been completed so that it can be collected overnight by Father Christmas or Father Christmas. If the wish list is missing the next morning, the children can be sure that the note has found the right addressee.
Alternatively, the wish list can be placed in the cleaned Santa's boot on the evening before 6 December. If the wish list is missing the next morning, the children can be sure that the note has been taken by St Nicholas and passed on to the right person.
Send to Father Christmas, Father Christmas or St Nicholas by post
Another way is to send the wish list by post directly to Father Christmas, Father Christmas or St Nicholas. In Germany, many postal companies offer this service.
Of course, every letter sent will be answered by one of Santa's helpers with a personalised message.
