Children's room areas
When furnishing your child’s bedroom, it makes sense to divide the room into different areas. In keeping with Montessori educational principles, zones for different purposes provide structure and a sense of ‘ organisation ’ in the child’s bedroom.
Ideas for the play
areaThe play area in the nursery is perfect for hours of play. By immersing themselves in fantasy worlds at dollhouse or on play table, our little ones can experiment, learn and discover their own interests and abilities. Role-play games such as play shop or play kitchen are particularly popular with children, as they allow them to act out everyday situations.
- Make sure there is enough space to play. Even in the smallest of children’s rooms, you’re sure to find a corner that’s suitable as a play area.
- Choose play options based on your child’s interests. After all, your little one should enjoy it.
- Don’t overload the play area with too many toys. Too much choice can overwhelm our little ones.
- Colours encourage creative play. Make your play area in the nursery colourful, but don’t overdo it.
- Sufficient storage space ensures structure and organisation in the play area.
Ideas for the bedroom
While we sleep, we process all the impressions of the day. And for little ones, that’s quite a lot! To ensure your little one feels really comfortable in their cot and can settle down, you should make this space particularly cosy. The right wall decorations in soothing colours will help you achieve this.
- Choose a quiet spot in the nursery for the sleeping area.
- A cosy bed is half the battle. If necessary, make sure there is a safety rail, especially if your child moves around a lot in their sleep.
- Use calm colours in the sleeping area. Cool colours such as blue are generally considered soothing, whilst warm colours such as red tend to have a stimulating effect.
- A small night light helps children feel particularly at ease in the sleeping area. However, the light should not be too bright.
- Let your child choose 1–2 soft toys to take to bed. Too many soft toys in bed are often distracting.
Ideas for the dressing area
Of course, our little ones also need plenty of storage space for their clothes in the nursery. Their favourite outfits can be neatly stowed away in a chest of drawers or in a wardrobe, which you can decorate with furniture film.
- The dressing area in the nursery should offer enough storage space so that you can keep track of the children’s clothes.
- Many children enjoy helping to choose their clothes. A children’s wardrobe at eye level helps them do just that.
- Clear out the wardrobe in the children’s room regularly. Clothes that no longer fit take up unnecessary space in the dressing area.
- With a structured organisation in the dressing area, you’ll always know where to find which items of clothing and won’t have to rummage around for ages.
- Organise the wardrobe sensibly: in summer, for example, thick jackets can be stored right at the top, where they’re not so easily accessible.
ideas for storage & organisation
With structure and organisation brings harmony to the children's room. In the children's shelf s favourite items can be stowed away quickly and if everything has its place, tidying up after the wildest play is child's play.
- Make sure there is enough space for toys, painting utensils and books in the children's room. A shelving or cupboard system will help you do this.
- Boxes and crates are a good choice for keeping your child's room organisation . After the Lego game, simply put all the figures and bricks back in the box.
- Define an organisational structure in the children's room together with your child. This way, puzzles, cars and crayons always have a fixed place.
- Children's shelves at eye level help your child to keep organisation themselves.
- Sort out toys and books regularly. What is no longer played with or is broken makes room for new things.
Ideas for children's bedroom walls
wall designs in a child’s bedroom really make the little ones’ space feel cosy. A coloured wall or small details in cheerful colours give the room that feel-good factor.
- When designing your children’s bedroom walls, opt for light and calm colours. Wall decorations that are too colourful can quickly make the room feel cramped.
- You can add stylish touches with small details such as a wall sticker.
- Combine wall decoration with storage space. A wall shelf in the nursery provides both storage and decoration.
- Let your child have a say in the design of the nursery walls and choose colours or elements that they like.
- Choose the wall décor according to the purpose of the area in the children’s room.
